I love it! Debbie Young sent me this fun pic - Sherlock Bear reading a murder mystery that I seem to recognise...

Welcome to my new venture - or should that be 'adventure'!

I have been a published author since 1994 - first accepted for publication by William Heinemann (Random House UK) a week after my fortieth birthday in April 1993. I have travelled  a very varied writer's road since then, with quite a few 'highs' and a few 'lows'...

When Heinemann dropped four of my novels in 2006 I was, at first, devastated, but picked myself up and decided to go 'indie' with an assisted publishing company.

The first company was a disaster (they went bust and cheated a lot of writers out of royalties and payments). Then I went to Helen Hart of SilverWood Books Ltd - who produced my books beautifully. Four of them, my 'serious' historical novels, are still there, and will be for the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile, I was picked up by Sourcebooks Inc of USA, a Turkish, Italian and German publisher, and recently Penmore Press. I have also written two non-fiction books for Amberley Press and Pen & Sword.

I want to try my hand at a new genre, however - the homely/light-hearted type quick read, cosy mystery. Fun to write, fun to read. I decided to draw on my thirteen years of working in a public library as a background, using the real library and town of Chingford. (Alas the building is still there, but it is no longer a library). I've also used my love of horse riding, writing, and knowledge of Epping Forest.

So, the places and 'fun' anecdotes are real - but not the crimes and the characters are very much made-up fictional inventions, they live only in my imagination.

I am planning to release the fist Jan Christopher Mystery - A Mirror Murder in early January 2021 (there's a reason for it being January, but I'm not revealing why just yet) ... so I have a lot to do!

Wish me luck!
